A mechanical and electrical contractor in the GTA focusing on providing full-service promise to our customers from project conception to completion.
Position:
The Controller will oversee, manage, and provide leadership for the Company's project and financial accounting capacity. The Controller will be working closely with Senior Management to articulate accounting policies, procedures, risks and controls. The role will require an individual that is an accomplished self-starter with a proven background in managing budgets and creating controls. The Controller will be required to direct and manage the project accounting functions by establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures, and preparing financial information for Senior Management.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage the job/project accounting operations, including conducting job/project reviews, preparation of detailed analyses and job/project reporting, and related financial reports,
• Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual operating results,
• Responsible for the preparation of monthly financial information and internal reporting for Senior Management and ensuring that all reporting and tax requirements are met,
• Provide strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making,
• Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of job/project financial information
• Assist and lead Budgeting and forecasting process,
• Establish and monitor internal job/projects controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory and Company policies and procedures,
• Work with Operations to define, measure, analyze, improve and control current processes which impact stakeholder reporting quality and influence internal operating efficiency,
• Hiring, training, mentoring and supervising accounting staff
• Other dues as assigned from time to time
Qualifications/Positional Requirements
• Designation in CPA or equivalent (CMA, CGA)
• 5+ years' experience in senior finance/accounting role (Controller, Senior accounting manager, etc.)
• 5+ years' experience with accounting in the construction field, including knowledge of the Construction Lien Act, and cost of completion accounting,
• Knowledge of ASPE reporting standards,
• Able to develop, mentor and challenge/engage staff,
• Strong verbal and written communication skills,
• Ability to work independently in a busy environment,
• Able to work well under pressure,
• Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures,
• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of ERP systems (e.g.Jonas),
