In the Finance Associate position, you’ll support the VP of Finance and the Finance Department with day-to-day tactical operations and projects that will help streamline, automate, and create efficiencies for the team.




Key areas of responsibility include:




Knowledge Management: 


  • Managing day-to-day workflow in the department 

  • Leading documentation of department policies and procedures

  • Leading implementation of document retention policies and compliance




Reporting and Analysis: 


  • Creating ad hoc financial reports and analysis as directed

  • Producing and distributing expenditure and budget/actual financial reports to each budget/department manager.  Responding to inquiries 

  • Providing analysis on allocations for joint activity (SOP 98-2) as well as general ledger allocations 

  • Participate in special projects, reconciliations, research and analysis


Month-end and Year-end Close:


  • Support the month end close process including facilitating the close schedule and completing journal entries and reconciliations as needed

  • Support annual audit preparation and 990 tax reporting preparation 


Administrative Support:


  • Respond to informational requests from Fellowship staff and communicate their needs and expectations to appropriate finance team members.  Follow up on requests as necessary

  • Support finance team through cross-training in multiple areas as well as provide general administrative support

  • Coordinate department training, meetings and events




The ideal candidate will have at least the following experience and abilities:




  • BA required, finance and/or accounting preferred

  • 2-5 years’ experience in finance and/or accounting in the area of analysis, general ledger and/or reporting

  • Hands-on experience with general accounting software

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced level of Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Excellent research and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with staff at all levels in the organization

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and manage shifting priorities and deadlines

  • Strong attention to details and proofing abilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate, timely documentation

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Knowledge of generally acceptable accounting principles
