 Director of Finance and Administration - Job Description 


The mission of SamaraCare Counseling and Consulting is to help people achieve their greatest potential by being compassionate and spirit-led counselors, consultants and advocates. Our vision is that nothing stands in the way of people getting the help they need to flourish. For 47 years SamaraCare - a 501c3 Not for Profit organization - has provided mental health counseling to people in DuPage County and surrounding areas. SamaraCare’s organizational and leadership consulting program serves Chicagoland and beyond. SamaraCare has grown steadily over the past 47 years and will continue that trend going forward. The principal responsibilities of the Director of Finance & Administration (DFA) in support the mission and services of SamaraCare includes accounting, finance, property management, risk management, with oversight of human resources, and information technology. 

The Position 

The DFA is a member of the Executive Management Team, including CEO, Director of Development, Clinical Directors, and Director of Consulting. Reporting to the CEO, the DFA has sole responsibility for accounting, finance and human resources. The DFA supervises SamaraCare’s facility and leases, and three paraprofessionals. This position shares responsibility for information technology and is the primary liaison with the IT Consultants. The DFA will have an office at SamaraCare’s main office building in Naperville. 

SamaraCare has a Board of Directors. The DFA is the principal staff liaison to the Treasurer and Finance Committee of the Board, Audit Committee, and directs the yearly audit and assists in the drafting of the organizations 990. 

Responsible for: 

 Entire range of financial activity and standard accounting, analysis and reporting procedures, including: budgeting, payroll and annual audit. 

 Property Management – supervise the overall maintenance of SamaraCare property and leased property. 

 Human Resources – serves as first point of contact for staff concerning payroll, benefits, or HR policy issues, employment law, coordinating when necessary with external resources. Coordinates employee reviews and contracts and also administers 403 (B) retirement plan. 

 Information Technology – insures that the staff has adequate computing resources and devices, and engages technical support from SamaraCare’s IT vendor as needed. 



 Strategic Planning – key participant in Strategic Planning processes and in ensuring that growth initiatives have appropriate processes to operate effectively. 

 Process Improvement – SamaraCare has a culture of continuous improvement. The DFA will be expected to routinely conceive of and lead projects that improve the efficiency of administrative functions and better support the organization. 

 Development Director Interface – work closely with the Development Director to provide business, statistical and financial information needed for grant proposals and ongoing reporting to grantors. 



 Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, a CPA is a plus. 

 Public Accounting experience and previous work experience in non-profit accounting would be a plus. 

 At least 10 years of total work experience with scope of responsibilities having included some or all of the above non-financial areas. 

 Proficiency with QuickBooks or other common small business accounting software. 

 Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. 

 Strong communication skills. 

 Supports an atmosphere conducive to teamwork and collaboration.
