I have been looking at Adaptive Planning and really like what I"ve seen. The product is SaaS, it is robust and reasonably priced. If you go to their website you can get alot of information.

Bob,

If you are looking for comprehensive budgeting and forecasting solutions that are scalable, take a look at Cognos Planning or Hyperion Planning.

Adaptive is a great product with tremendous flexibility. Two years ago I did a review of 6 systems to fill a specific client need. AP was the best match for that company. It also turned out, based on the license model at the time to be the least expensive.

I had a great projection template available online till recently. We'd been using it internally for 2 decades; but in 2008 we developed it into a user-friendly template and had some success selling it online.

Last December; my board recommended that I take it off the market and re-tool it as an online service (Saas). We had been allowing people to download it as a single user license. The board feels I'm to trusting. They are probably right.

We should have the projection software back on online by the end of September.
We're working on the business plan right now. I have about 2 weeks of procrastination left, followed by a frenzy of effort to finalize the proposal before the end of July.

I'd be happy to help you prepare a projection or budget, but my board would never let me sell you the software as a single user license.
Aside from that; please let me know what software you decide to use, along with why you chose them. I'm also going to look at the packages that were recommended by others in this thread.

Best of luck with your project!

Tony

I've had experience at large financial services companies that use Oracle's suite of products, specifically the former Hyperion suite of reporting, budgeting and forecasting tools. Based on that experience my advice would be to buy budgeting software that has appropriate level of complexity for the size of your company. Analogy is don't buy a Lamborghini if all you need is a bicycle.

If a small company, I would not suggest Oracle's suite. It simply requires a disproportionate amount of maintenance and technology attention vs. what you get as a forecasting tool. Worth considering in the very largest companies, but not for small companies.

Without knowing what industry you are in I cannot make a specific recommendation (e.g. banking has very different forecasting needs than manufacturing, etc.). When evaluating alternatives I would suggest important attributes to consider regardless of industry would be "version control", speed of refresh, and ease of download to/from Excel. And like a bicycle, try before you buy.

Best of Luck!
