I am looking for recommendations for budgeting software for a small company ($20 million in sales). Ideally uploads and downloads are easy with Excel. Currently we are using Excel for our budgeting and interested in knowing whether there is anything out there that would save us some time vs Excel.
Thanks,
Fred Braley

I am in a similar situation - did you get any recommendations? I would love to move my budget process out of excel. What are you using at this point?

Dennis,
I ended up using PlanGuru. I was concerned about budgeting in Excel because we have 18 departments and wanted something where I would not have to worry all the time that I am off a line or one of the formulas was changed by mistake. PlanGuru has some nice features but it is clunky. You can download from Excel but you have to do one department at a time. Each department has to be a separate analysis so in order to record actual data I have to download into 18 different files or what they call analysis. Having said that you don't have to worry about whether the download contains any new accounts and throw off the download. The reports PlanGuru has to offer are limited. I bought the reporting add-in for Excel and it makes reporting much easier and much more flexible. It is a nice tie in to have the balance sheet and income statement automatically produce a cash flow statement. The balance sheet has some nice features that make it easier to budget.
Hope that helps.

Good morning,
My organization uses strata jazz for our operating budgeting and forecasting. We also looked at Adaptive Planning and their tool.
The strata system is web based and very flexible. The tech support has been good...turn around times have been quick.
The pricing is scalable with the amount of service as well as the number of years you would use the tool.
Getting away from excel was the first big step toward metric and analytical based reporting here.
Good luck with your decision.
Thank you
Brian

Take a look at Adaptive Planning. Cloud based software that is relatively inexpensive, and very customizable, but with data integrity controls. Can be deployed with consulting (fee extra) in as little as 1-2 two weeks depending on complexity of budget model. Ask for Nick Saita for the consulting work. He is great.
