Message:PLEASE RESPOND IF YOU CAN OFFER ADVICE FOR HANDLING EMPLOYER TAXES FOR A MEDICAL SOFTWARE CONSULTING COMPANY WITH 100+ CONSULTANTS WORKING IN 30 STATES. SOME STATES HAVE ONLY ONE CONSULTANT IN THEM.
IT SEEMS UNREASONABLE TO FOLLOW EACH STATES' INDIVIDUAL LAWS WHEN THE COMPANY HAS EMPLOYEES TRAVELING TO AND FROM STATES ON A WEEKLY OR DAILY BASIS WORKING ON TEMPORARY PROJECTS.
I AM LOOKING FOR A MORE PRACTICAL APPROACH, INSTEAD OF A LEGAL ONE, TO HANDLING THIS PAYROLL ENVIRONMENT, HOWEVER IF YOUR ADVICE IS TO FOLLOW EACH LOCAL LAW, I WOULD APPRECIATE KNOWING IT.

In general you never want to fool around with payroll taxes. Thats the fastest way to create problems for a company. From a practical standpoint you might be best off looking for a payroll service such as Paychex because of the sheer complexity of dealing with 30 states.
My practice focuses on sales taxes, so I would be happy to answer questions about that. Give me a call and we can talk - it's too complicated to deal with by email.
